Lord of the World

Produktinformationen

Robert Hugh Benson's Lord of the World delivers a stark warning of the dangers of secular humanism. Written in 1907, the novel chronicles the rise of the Antichrist in a dystopian future, where God has been abandoned and humanity itself has become the object of worship. Percy Franklin, one of the few Catholic priests left, finds himself putting everything on the line for the faith that is now a crime punishable by death.
Both Pope Benedict XVI and Pope Francis recognized the prophetic character of this novel, which depicts the ultimate consequences of a secular "new world order." What promises peace and progress in reality brings only destruction and despair, and in the face of such evil can stand only one opponent: the Catholic Church.

Über die Autorin/den Autor

Fr. Robert Hugh Benson (1871-1914) was a prominent Anglican cleric who gained fame in England for his conversion to Catholicism. Today, he is largely known for his prolific career as a fiction writer, and his dystopian classic Lord of the World is considered one of the first in its genre.
Bishop Robert Barron is the founder of Word on Fire Catholic Ministries and the host of CATHOLICISM, a groundbreaking, award-winning documentary about the Catholic faith. On July 21, 2015, Pope Francis announced his appointment as Auxiliary Bishop in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, and on June 2, 2022, he appointed Bishop Barron the ninth bishop of the Diocese of Winona-Rochester (Minnesota). Ordained in 1986 in the Archdiocese of Chicago, Bishop Barron received a master's degree in philosophy from The Catholic University of America in 1982 and a doctorate in sacred theology from the Institut Catholique de Paris in 1992.
