The incisions for the facial structure have particular importance because of presence of various vital important structure present in face and also the face holds an important aesthetical importance. Damage to any nerve or vessels should be avoided with careful planning of the incision placement. The basic rule is to select the most direct approach to the skeleton, therefore the incision as placed very close to the area of surgical interest , retracting any major nerve or vessels in the way. The incision in facial skeleton are designed for preserving the facial aesthetics, not on surgical convenience. The face is visible and any scar resulting from incisions creates cosmetic deformity and is troubling for some individuals. Therefore, cosmetic consideration is critical in facial surgeries. Incision placed on the face should be placed in inconspicuous area, or sometimes away from the underlying skeleton defect.
